eSIM Not Working After You Land: The Four Failures, In Order
How long an attach is supposed to take
Wait 90 seconds before you touch anything. A travel profile normally finds a local network 20 to 45 seconds after you turn airplane mode off on the tarmac, and a busy arrival hall stretches that. Below 90 seconds you are early, not broken.
After that, something on this page is wrong. Work through the four failures in the order below, because the first one accounts for most of what support sees after a landing and takes about fifteen seconds to fix. Do it on the aircraft rather than in the immigration queue.

The first row is about sixty percent of everything support sees in the hour after a landing.
Failure one: no service at all
You see no carrier name. The status bar says No Service, or it sits on Searching and never settles. Nothing you open will work, because the line never registered on anything.
Data roaming is off on the travel line about sixty percent of the time. It sounds like a setting that costs money. On a travel eSIM it cannot, because roaming is how that line reaches a partner network in the first place, and there is no charge beyond the data you already bought.
Check two more things while you are in that screen: that the travel line is switched on at all, and that it is the line selected for cellular data. A phone with both lines enabled will keep routing data over the home SIM you thought you had disabled.
- iPhone: Settings, Cellular, tap the travel line, turn on Data Roaming
- iPhone: back on the Cellular screen, set Cellular Data to the travel line
- Android: Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, select the travel line, turn on Roaming
- Android: set the travel line as the SIM for mobile data
Failure two: attached but no data
A carrier name and bars, but no 5G, LTE or 4G badge beside them. The line has registered for signalling and has no data bearer under it. This is the APN case, and it is the one place where Android is worse than iPhone.
On an iPhone you never set an APN by hand, because the profile carries it. If you are on an iPhone and you are in this state, go straight to failure three rather than hunting for a setting your device does not have.
Most Android builds also read the APN out of the profile. A minority, mostly older Xiaomi handsets and phones locked to a carrier, need it typed under Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, the Orbislo line, Access Point Names. The exact value is in your order and in the app, and Ori can read it out to you with no connection.
Do not touch the APN in any other state. If the status bar already shows a data badge, the APN is working, and typing over a working one turns a problem you could fix into one you cannot.
Failure three: data but nothing loads
Full bars, a data badge, and every page times out. Your phone has registered on a network that is not passing your traffic. Reselecting the network by hand usually clears it within seconds.
Turn off automatic network selection, then pick one of the partner networks listed on the country page for where you are. If the first does not attach, pick the second. Across 145 destinations we run 157 upstream networks, so in most countries there is a second one to move to.
Here is where we lose. In 5 of those 145 destinations we have exactly one upstream network, so this fix does not exist there. The honest answer is to wait for the cell to clear or to use wifi, and we would rather say that than sell you a step that cannot work.

Failure four: a captive portal is eating a connection that works
Look at the top of the screen. If you can see the wifi symbol rather than the cellular one, your travel line may be perfectly healthy and completely unused. Phones rejoin airport wifi they met on a previous trip without asking you first.
That wifi usually sits behind a captive portal, which answers every request with a sign in page. You never see the page, because the first thing to ask for the network was an app rather than a browser, and the app simply reports that it cannot connect.
Turn wifi off entirely for five minutes. If everything starts working, the fault was yours and not your eSIM. A content blocker can also break the portal page itself, which is why Orbislo Shield has a one tap 15 minute pause. The usual casualties are airline check in flows and hotel portals.
What airplane mode actually fixes
It forces the radio to drop every registration and scan again. That is a real fix for exactly one thing, a stale cache. After a long flight your phone is still holding the last network it saw before departure, and it will hold it until something makes it look again.
The recipe is airplane mode on, wait 20 seconds, airplane mode off, then wait 60 seconds for the line to register. Once. Five times in a row is five re attaches to the same cell.
It does not switch on a roaming toggle, it does not write an APN a handset refuses to read, and it does not move you off a congested cell. Restarting the phone, toggling airplane mode and resetting network settings are folklore when the problem is congestion. The only honest fix for a busy cell is a different network.
The loop where you cannot buy data because you have no data
This is the failure that is not a fault. Your profile is fine, your balance is empty, and buying more needs a connection you do not have. Every seller in this category creates that loop and almost none of them close it.
Every Orbislo account carries 100 MB of free rescue data a month, in 200 countries, under the name Lifeline. When your paid balance runs out it takes over automatically and tells you so, with the amount remaining. When Lifeline itself runs out, the connection stops rather than crawling, and the top up screen opens.

The two cases where the answer is a refund, not a fix
Stop troubleshooting after about ten minutes. Two of the states above are not yours to fix, and in both of them the correct outcome is your money back rather than a longer checklist.
The first is a provisioning failure, where the profile never installed at all. There is nothing to fix and nothing to pay. You are refunded automatically inside 60 seconds and you can retry straight away. The three usual causes are a phone locked to a carrier, a connection that dropped mid download, and a device that has run out of eSIM profile slots. Only the last one is yours, and deleting an old unused profile clears it.
The second is a network that failed you in the destination, which is a full refund plus a credit for the trouble. If you never installed the plan, or used under five percent of it, tap refund in your order and it is done. Front line agents can refund up to 200 dollars without asking anyone.
We are not perfect at this. Between 3 September and 15 October 2026 the automatic refund missed 214 orders, and one customer had to write in before we noticed. That sits in our own truth report rather than quietly patched.
What to do at the gate, so none of this happens
Install before you fly, not at the gate. Installing writes the profile to the phone. Activating happens the first time that profile attaches in the destination, so nothing is spent in between and an install three weeks early costs exactly the same as one three minutes early.
If you need SMS codes while you are away, turn on wifi calling at home and test it there. Several carriers will only let you enable it while you are registered on their own network.
Take a screenshot of your order before you board. The plan details and the APN value sit in the app offline anyway, but a screenshot survives a phone that will not open anything.
