Landing at Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)

Underground and on the metro
Hanoi Metro runs 2 lines. It opened in 2021. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Hanoi
- Hanoi Metro does not reach Noi Bai airport. The two open lines are 2A Cat Linh-Ha Dong (opened 6 November 2021) and the Nhon-Cau Giay section of Line 3 (opened 8 August 2024); the airport link is a separate Line 2 (Noi Bai - Nam Thang Long) still under construction with an expected 2029 completion.
- Both open Hanoi Metro sections are elevated - Line 2A's 13.1 km and 12 stations are entirely elevated, and the 8.5 km Nhon-Cau Giay stretch of Line 3 is elevated too - so there is no underground running yet; Line 3's four-station tunnel to Hanoi railway station is not due until around late 2027.
- The practical airport link is express bus 86, which runs 06:20-22:00 every 25 minutes for 45,000 dong and takes about 45 minutes via the expressway to Long Bien bus station near the Old Quarter; a metered taxi covers roughly 27-28 km for 300,000-350,000 dong.
- Noi Bai splits its traffic between Terminal 1 (domestic only) and Terminal 2 (all international flights, opened 4 January 2015), so international arrivals should expect to land at T2 and change terminals for onward domestic flights.
