Underground and on the metro
Metro de Lima y Callao runs 2 lines. It opened in 2011. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Lima
- No highway, metro or public bus route reaches Jorge Chávez airport; access is by the dedicated Airport Express bus or by taxi.
- A replacement terminal opened at Jorge Chávez on 1 June 2025, a roughly $1.2 billion project.
- Lima's Line 1 is a 34.6 km elevated viaduct, while Line 2, opened on 21 December 2023, is entirely underground.
- Line 4, which will finally connect the metro to the airport, only began construction in 2024.
