Getting into Salvador
- Salvador Metro Line 2 to Aeroporto station, reached from the terminal by a free shuttle bus every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 01:00 (SSA)
Underground and on the metro
Salvador Metro runs 2 lines. It opened in 2014. The operator does not publish whether the tunnels carry a mobile signal, so we do not claim either way.
Worth knowing about Salvador
- The Salvador Metro is barely underground: only about 1.4 km of Line 1 runs in tunnel, with 5.8 km elevated and the rest at grade.
- Line 2 reaches the airport at Aeroporto station, opened in April 2018, and a free shuttle bus runs between the terminal and the station every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 01:00.
- The airport is 28 km north of downtown Salvador and has been run under concession by Vinci since 2017.
- Salvador is split into an upper and a lower city, still linked by the Elevador Lacerda, a public hydraulic lift built in 1873 and in use today.
